Data Recovery Steps
Recovering data can be scary, but there are some tips that can help in the data recovery process which can minimize the risks of losing data forever. The most important thing to remember if you lose data is that nothing should be written on the hard drive. Even if you have accidentally deleted a partition, do not do anything. This is extremely critical, because lost data is not truly lost until the space is written over. When you delete or remove data from the hard drive, it is not erased. Instead the drive will mark the space as being deleted when in fact the files are still there. Once the system needs space to save files, all of the spaces which are marked as deleted will be seen by the system as being empty space and will be written over. Once this happens there is normally no way to recover the data because the new files took the place of the lost data.
If you have deleted the partition of the hard drive, the files are also not truly deleted but instead just marked that way by the system. All of the information which is assumed to be lost is still present, it is just not showing up on the system. The operating system can not read the data which is present on the hidden partition, but data recovery programs can. Another solution is to transfer the hard drive to another PC, so that it can not be written over and so that you can try to access the hidden files and recover them. If you can not recover data on your own, there are many professional companies and IT technicians who can perform this step for you for a fee. Data recovery is possible as long as the area of lost data is considered empty and is not used to save new data.
