Is Someone Spying on you through your Computer?
Someone could be spying on you without your knowledge and use the information they gather for their own purposes. Spyware will not infect your computer like a virus, Trojan horse or a worm but they can be harmful to you. They allow information to be gathered through your internet connection and transmitted to others, usually the spyware user.
Some spyware programs are capable of logging every key stroke you make, recording your passwords and log in information for sites such as your bank and private accounts. This type of software usually comes from websites you visit that are not certified or a site that is not trusted. Some sites that are notorious for spyware are sites that allow free software downloads and pornographic sites. Spyware is usually packaged as a part of the free downloads so that when you run the programming, it penetrates your system keeping track of your activities even when you are offline.
This programming can slow down your computer because it takes up a lot of your memory and will sometimes even clog your internet connection. If you are noticing a lot of pop-ups within your browser, you most likely have spyware that is working on your computer. This can change your bookmarks, slow down your work progress and even direct you to websites you have never been to before. However there are programs that you can get to rid your computer of the spyware. Make sure the anti-spyware software you install is reliable enough to pick up the spyware and remove them from your computer. Adjust the security level to medium so that it keeps the spyware off of your computer.
In order to not get spyware in the first place, stay away from “freebie” download sites, pornographic sites, sites that your computer has not stored a certification for and avoid clicking on pop-ups that you don’t recognize. Each free download you make has the possibility of depositing spyware on your computer that will in turn infect your computer. You can control the spyware by controlling your browsing, using discipline and caution when surfing the web.
