Too Much Noise in Your House? Soundproof It with Green Glue
Soundproofing your home is a great solution you can turn to if your home is too close to the main road or to your neighbors and you find yourself disturbed by sounds from the outside. After all, your home is supposed to be a haven for your rest and should be safe from unwanted noise.
Thankfully, it is not that difficult to create a soundproof barrier in your home. It is as simple as removing the outer sheathing of your walls and inserting a barrier of plywood stuck together with Green Glue. This does not take a lot of work and only requires minimal amount of funding.
Why Green Glue?
Of all the soundproofing sealant products out there, why should you use Green Glue? For one, Green Glue is easy to use. You only need to have an applicator tube to apply it on your drywall. It is also easy to clean while it is still wet, which is a handy thing if you have made a mistake in applying the product. You just have to wipe it off with soapy cloth.
Green Glue is also an environment-friendly product. It does not emit any noxious odors when you apply it and you will not be subjected to harmful vapors. Most of all, it is a low volatile organic compound (VOC) product and it is resistant to mold.
This product does have a disadvantage that you should be aware of. Since it is made out of polymer, it temporarily loses its ability to keep your sheathing damp when it freezes. Thus, when you use it, make sure that it does not freeze before you are done.
How to Use Green Glue
As mentioned above, it is quite easy to use Green Glue in making your house noise-proof. Here are a few simple steps to getting it done.
1. Remove the layers of sheathing on the outer side of your walls. Do this until you have exposed the solid backing of your shingles.
2. Glue together two layers of plywood with Green Glue. If you do not want to use plain plywood, use drywall.
3. Screw or nail your glued plywood to the solid wall and reapply the vapor barrier. Afterwards, put back the shingles or the siding of your outer wall.
Soundproofing your home is not that difficult to do. If you want to protect your house from unnecessary noise coming from outside, just apply a soundproof layer to your outer walls.
