How to Clear Up Your Internet Browser Cache
If you want your computer to keep running smoothly, you should make it a habit to clear the cache of your computer. That is because your computer needs all the free space that it can have in order to function quickly and without any hiccups.
What is the cache? Simply put, it is the amount of space that your Internet browser sets aside on your hard drive for whatever files that you inadvertently download whenever you browse the Internet. These files include offline versions of the websites you have visited. The space allotted for these files can get filled up before you know it, and when it does, it can bog your computer down.
It is not difficult to clear up the files stored by your Internet browser while you were surfing. Read on to find out how to do this with Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox, the two most popular Internet browsers in use today.
Clearing the Cache in Internet Explorer
To clear your cache in Internet Explorer, you only need to click the Tools menu and find "Internet Options" in the drop-down menu that will appear. A dialog box will pop up. Click on the General tab and find the "Delete…" button under the Browsing History section. Check "Temporary Internet Files" and then click "Delete."
It is possible for you to do this automatically every time you close your Internet Explorer. Again, select "Internet Options" under the Tools menu and click the Advance tab in the resulting dialog box. Scroll down and find the Security section. Once you do, check the option "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed." Afterwards, click the "Okay" button.
Clearing the Cache in Mozilla Firefox
To clear your cache in Mozilla Firefox, what you need to do is to click "Clear Recent History" under the Tools menu. Along with your browsing history, this will also clean up stored files in your computer that you downloaded while surfing the Internet.
To do this automatically every time you exit Firefox, open the Options dialog box. You will also find this under the Tools menu. Once you have opened the Options dialog box, go to the Privacy tab. Put a check mark next to the "Clear history when Firefox closes" option. Also, click on the "Settings" button just beside it and make sure that there is a check mark next to the cache.
Always remember to clear your computer's cache regularly. This will keep your computer running smoothly, without being bogged by unnecessary files accumulated through your Internet surfing.
