A Computer That Fits the Need of Your Kids
The number of kids using adult computers is astounding. Recently, survey shows that more and more children use computers for almost 30 minutes per day. This only means that they are highly exposed to keyboards and long hours in front of a monitor.
Though a helpful device, experts see potential problems in little kids using computers. Some issues include the following:
- A kid uses an age-inappropriate device.
- A child adjusts to an adult-sized fixture.
- Children are not equipped with ergonomic computing techniques.
- Kids spend too much time in front of the computer.
The long-hours of computer use also affect a child’s health in many ways. Complaints of back pains, neck aches and even headaches from children grew over the years. All these have been linked to a child’s improper computer habits. However, through newer versions of computers, little kids now have a way to use PCs without having to worry of such problems.
Age-Appropriate Devices
Computers for kids are made available these days. They are designed to fit your kid’s needs. They are also crafted to meet with the safety standards of computer use. For example, these new equipment are made with keyboards that fit with your child’s tiny hands. They are also equipped with software programs that assist the child’s typing and reading skills.
Here are some other differences you can notice in these child-appropriate devices:
- The mouse is small enough to accommodate your child’s needs.
- The mouse come with colored dots on the buttons to assist kids in left and right clicks.
- The size is appropriate enough for a child’s use. Posture problems are avoided since the child doesn’t have to tilt his head up or down to see the focal point on the screen.
What Parents Can Do
Aside from buying these age-appropriate computers, parents can do some things to assist their little kids in proper computer use. Here are some of the ways you can consider:
- Be a role model. Always display proper posture when using the computer. Also remind your children of positioning the back straight up so pain problems can be avoided.
- Set time limits. You can use the kitchen timer to limit your kid’s computer use to twenty minutes.
- Allow your kids to take frequent breaks. Let them do stretching in-between computer use to prevent health problems.
