Preparing for the Worst Case Scenario: Protect your Data

Have you experience having had to toil for an important project and when the time of submission comes, you discovered that all your important data was gone, and nowhere to be found?  How do you prepare for the worst case scenario such as this? How do you protect your data?

Many of us have different ways of protecting our data. Below are the expert’s advice on how we could very well protect our data from theft, accidental deleting or data loss in general:

Password-protect and encrypt your data

One good strategy in preparing yourself from worst case scenario of data loss would be to password-protect your important files. This would ensure that nobody could modify, delete nor access them in any way. You can also encrypt your PC wherein nobody could start using it without a password or passphrase. This way you could ensure that all your data are protected and you’re the only one who could have access to them. Just make sure you remember the password, because if you don’t, you might lose your data forever.

Create User Accounts

If you’re not the only person who uses your computer, there is a risk that other people might accidentally delete your important files and data. What you can do is, you can create a different user account which is password protected, so other people would not have access to them.  You can make an admin account where you can have the admin privileges and provide a setting wherein other users could not have access to your account. This would protect your data.

Properly Dispose of Sensitive Information

Deleting does not necessarily dispose of your data and other sensitive information. All your information could be vulnerable to theft and could be used against you or your corporate organization. Follow the guidelines and corporate policy verbatim on how to properly dispose of sensitive information. This could protect you and your organization.

Always update your Anti-spyware and Antivirus programs

Keep your antispyware and antivirus program updated. This would help you prepare for the worst case scenario of data loss. This would protect your data from vulnerabilities like attackers that could have administrative privileges. Also, viruses could damage your files, delete your files, and corrupt your hard drive in general. So, always scan for viruses and spyware. This ensures that all your files are protected.
